RETURNED SOLDIERS ARRIVE!

Lampen, who was itt ehargo of tho troops, learned for. tho first timo on reaching Port Chalmers that lie had been awarded tho D.5.0.He went out to Cairo with the New Zealand Contingent from London in 1016, served on Gallipoli, whero he was wounded and mentioned in dispatches, and, later, in France. Ho now returns sick.
■vo others on board who havo earned distinction arc Sergeant Taverndery D.C.M., who belongs to the National Bank at Christehurch, and showed great skill and bravery at Chunuk Bair whilo acting as guide, and Gunner FlornUKi, of the artillerv, who gained!tho "Military Medal in Franco for volunteering to take a message and estab* lish communication with another bat" tery which was being shelled. Lieutenant Clark, formerly of the 10th Regiment, who was wounded in tho abdomen at Gallipoli, returns to New Zealand as instructor in bombthrowing and bayonet fighting at Trentham. - ■ .
Altogether there are nine commis-' sioned officers on board who have been trained at Aldcrsbot, their mission being to instruct in special branches,.' such as bayonet fighting, physical drill, and trench tactics.
The s.s. Maori, which arrived from' Lyltßlton yesterday morning, brought fri Wellington 120 returned soldiers.The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) welcomed tho men. many of whom belong to Wellington City and district.
