FARM HANDS CALLED TO THE COLOURS

London, January 17. The War Office lias issued a series of orders as a prelude to a. more resolute combing out. One of the orders requires employers to Mipply monthly lists of employees between the ages of eighteen and forty-two, including casuals; and also a return of womon and men outside the age limits, to enable tho War Office to judgo how far the system of substitution can be utilised. Another order requires half the young and fib singlo men under twenty-six employed in agriculture to join the colours immediately.' It'is estimated that the order affects' sixty , thousand. It is believed that agriculture is overstaffed in some districts and understaffed in others. A number of Class C 3 men will be handed over to the farmers to replace fit youths.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
