EXEMPTED MEN
SOME NEW REGULATIONS. . New regulations concerning tTie enlistment of men engaged in essential industries ivero approved by the Executive Council yesterday. i'hey have the effect of placing the voluntary recruit on the same footing as the cqmpulsorily enlisted man in connection with suspension o£ service, if the immediate wttidrawal of a voluntary recruit from his civilian employment ie "contrary to the public interest," or "if the Minister of Defence has reason to believe that any voluntary recruit has enlisted under euch circumstances that the_ requirement of immediate lnilitaiy service would be a cause of undue hardship to himself or others, or if the Minister of Defence has reason to believe that such circumstances have arisen since, the enlistment of any voluntary recruit _ that the requirement of immediate military service would be a cause of undue hardship to himself or others, the said Minister may, 1 if he thinks fit, refer the matter to a Military Service Board for inquiry and report. ,1 Tho Board may then recom T mend the granting of leave of absence to the recruit. ' ■„ A further regulation makes it obligatory upon men exempted from military service by reason of tj>eir employment to inform the Commandant ot any change of address. Employers ere also given responsibility in the matter.
