PURCHASE OF CHEESE

MacDonald) yesterday, in order to make representations -concerning tho Government's requisitioning scheme. Tho T point raised was the recognition of pri- i vate sales and contracts, and the depu- J tation was accompanied by its legal,ad- c yiser, Mr. M. Myers. Tho proceed- c injrs were private. 1 The Minister stated subsequently i that he had promised to get some nddi- j tioniil information before issuing tho i proclamation requisitioning the output t of cheese. Tlio Solicitor-General was j preparing tho proclamation, and _ it f would bo issued as soon as the required 5 data was available. The Minister 8 added "that the Government would buy | the cheese from the owners, whoever j they might be. He wished to deal solely with owners. The question of who owned the cheese, under arrange- J ments already made, oiisht to be sottied easily enough by the parties concerned. ■. t Tho recent rains have had a wgndor- s ful effect on tbo root and rape crops f in the Ashburton County, and many I of the rape crops which wore being fed off have been shut up again and aro „ making ji rapid recovery. Tho root j crops, which were showing signs of ii drooping during the drought, have £ freshened up considerably, and good 1: crops are assured. 1
