Tbe woman, Hilda Koberstein, alias Mrs. Gale, reported-missing on Sunday night, and who was subsequently discovered biding on tlio following night, was charged in tho Carterton Police Court on Tuesday morning with attempting to take ber life. She was remanded to • appear at AYellington on Monday next, and in the meantime to undergo medical treatment.
The settlors of Longbush on Saturday evening tendered a farewell social ft) Lance-Corporal Marshall, who is leaving with the Twenty-third Reinforcements, and presented him with a safety-razor.
About 12,000 fat sheep have, already left the Longbush district this season, and .another big draft goes forward during the next few days. A line of 800 was sent away on Saturday to the AYfiingawa works.
Canon Fairbrother, vicar of Tamworth, Australia, arrived in Carterton on Monday night, accompanied by Mrs. .Fairbrother, on a visit to relatives.
