INSTITUTE OF SURVEYORS
At the animal general meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors, held last -week, the following resolutions were passed:—(l) That the council he requested to endeavour to secure an increase in the- Government rates for the survey of Crown lands. (2) That it be a recommendation to the council that in view of the increased cost of labour and living, the institute's scale of charges foe increased by the addition of a uniform. 25 per cent, to the existing scale charges for the period of the ivar. (3) That the attention of the council be called to the want of uniformity in the interpretations of the Government regulations and to the- conflict of requirements by chief surveyors, not only in different land districts, but also by successive chief surveyors_ in the same district, whoso varying opinions become- known to surveyors only by requisition after plans have been lodged and surveys completed in hill accordance with previously approved practice; and that the council approach the Government and 1 suggest that an inspecting officer should be sent round the various land districts "to collate all information procurable, -with the object of securing unanimity in practice. A very hearty rote of thanks was passed to Mr. I'. Humphries, the retiring president, for his eix years of unremitting effort on behalf of the- institute. The Wellington district local surveyors entertained the visitors to tho annual meeting at a dinner at the Hotel Cecil, Mr. C. H. Bridge (tho president) presiding. On Saturday the visitors were shown over the Trentham Camp, through the courtesy of tho military authorities.'.
