FOUR MORE VESSELS SUNK . London, January 3. The sinking is reported of the Swedish steamor Goosebridgo (1886 tons), and the sailer Aconcagua (1313 tons). , —'The Times." 1 London, January 3. The following sinkings have also been reported:—The British steamer Hollybranch (3568 tons), and. the Norwegian schooner Erica (167 tons). —Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn. THREE MORE VESSELS SUNK (Rec. Jauaury 4, 9.15 p.m.) Londoni January 3. The sinking of the following vessels is reported:—Tho Norwegian steamers Britannic (2289 tons), Ellik (602 tons), and the British steamer Bay Craig. COMMERCE DESTROYER SIGHTED BY ATLANTIC LINERS (Rec. January 4, 7.10 p.m.) New York, January 3. Arriving vessels report sighting a new armed German commerce destroyer equipped with torpedo tubes. Ifc is stated she sank several freighters. A later report states that there is anxiety regarding the overdue freighter Georgic (10,077 tons) and the liner Voltaire (8618 tons), but it is considered that tho vessels were probably mined.— Reuter. CALLOUS HUNS REFUSE TO SAVE VICTIMS Copenhagen, January 3. Regarding the submarining of the Russian steamer Tuskarj it is stated that when the crew took to. the boats, one_ capsized. The men struggled for their Jives, but the submarine did not attempt to save them. Three were drowned.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. admiraltTwarning ARMED MERCHANTMEN London, January 3. The Admiralty issues a Warning that the German wireless press is using unauthorised comments from the British newspapers in order to cast doubt on the defensive character of the armament of British merchantmen. The Admiralty reiterates that the ari mament is defensive in character.— Heuter. SIGNIFICANT INQUIRY JAPAN AND . HER MERCHANT. ■ MEN Washington, January 3. Japan states that she intends to arm merchantmen defensively, and asks if there aio_ any regulations governing armed ships using the Panama Canal, of whioh Japan ia one of the largest users. This is interpreted as indicative of Japanese belief in the danger of an extension of tho zone of German submarine operations.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. •
