A plucky rescue from drowning was effected by J. J. Plunket at Akitio Pier. W. E. Davies, storekeeper, Pongaroa, got caught in a strong under-current, and was helplessly tossed about by the waves for some {hue. He was brought out completely exhausted after a'third attempt by Plunket. The spectators immediately j subscribed £20 for Plunket, and also presented him with aa address.
