24th REINFORCEMENTS

MOBILISATION BEGUN | THE WELLINGTON DRAFT The mobilisation of the 24th Reinforcements* began yesterday, and will be oontinued during the week. The firet batches of recruits from the Wellington Military District were taken into the training camps .during the day, comprising volunteers and balloted men. Supplementary. drafts from tho various groups have still to go forward. .The Auckland nien will .arrive to-day, the Canterbury men to-morrow, and the Otago .. men on Saturday. Figures showing the strength of the drSts probably will not be available until the mobilisation is complete.. Recruits from Group.S (Wellington City, and Suburbs) paraded at the Buckle Street Drill Hall . yesterday morning, under the direction of Major A. A. Corrigan, Group Commander. They were inspected and addressed by the Commandant of tho Forces (General Sir A. W. Robin).before they left for camp.. The Commandant said that he was pleased with the physique and general appearance, of: the. recruits. They showed keenness and intelligence, and_ he had no doubt that hy the time their training was. completed they would be first-class soldiers, worthy to serve with the New Zealand Army '.in the field. He wished them to. understand clearly that they were going into camp as equals in all respects. They were all.New Zealand soldiers, and promotion would go where it was earned. Every recruit had the same chance of attaining non-commissioned,, or .even commissioned, rank. The Commandant urged the men to remember that if they had complaints to make at any time : they should approach their own non-commissioned officers and officers. He did not think they would have any ground for "grousing," as the conditions in the camps had been made as comfortable as possible. He wished all the recruits the'best of luck. . , ■■' The following men have already entered camp from Group 5: — Infantry. ■J. C. Barnard, J. P. Byrne, H. Burns; H. J. Beardsmore, J. R. Coughlan, A.
