There irerej.several soratchings in the Trial Plate,_ for which Mazama was a good favourite. There was some delay ■at thq barrior, and at tho start several of the runners were slow to find their feet. The quickest to begin were Lady ■Edith, Warmaid, and Multum, with tho favourite last but ono in a strung-out field. At the end of two furlongs the positions were u'nohanged, but tho Jung's Cpaest oolt then went up on tho outside, and caught the leadeis at tho - distanoo. He and Lady Edith finished the best, and . tho favourite won by a neck. Multuin, whogot. stopped -at the turn, waa third, and thou came Quinn's •Post and Block .Night, both of whom were propiinent the whole way. • ' Tho Tokomarn. HuMles drew a big field,. JJicomar being thebest supported, with Atuatoro and Arlington rivalling iiim for publio favour. The Spalpeen gelding gave a very bad display, and was too sore to hit out. He was tailed off the whole way, and finished last. At tho start Portland Lady and Parewanui led off, and soon had the field strung out. The pair fenced well, and had a big break on the field when a furlong had been covered. With six furlongs to go Atuatoro and Arlington were the most prominent of the others, but both failed to make any impression. Parewanui was lit oharge at the last fence, and holding his own won by a length from, Portl and Lady, with liurapai, who finished 1 fast, a neofc wray, Then came Sir Donald/ Arlington, and Marton. • Elation, Pohehe, Gazique, and Sunny •'Climsa were all fancied for .the Gillies "Back Handicap. At the start the Gisbonie gelding led off, and attended by Sunny Clones, Coropett, and Sabana he waa first into the straight. In a good finish up the straight the eon of Gazeley hold his <>wn, and won by a neck, with Pohehe a head, away. Carlatonr was fourth, and Goldbearine next. Elation shaped badly, as did Golden Glade. The withdrawals from the Cup were Clientj Taringamutu, and Montana. Record Investments for the course took place on thia race. Indigo was a Mod favourite, and then came Rinaldo, Red Jtlbbon, Square Deal, and Bon Reve. At ■'the start Goldstream and Bon Reve Jed '» bunched field, which was whipped by Manlaroa. At the six furlongs Square i)eal and Bronfe Delavnl became prominent just behind the leaders, and at the half-mile Square Deal took charge, and led BronK Delaval into the straight, with Indigo end Rinaldo comiwr fast. - Square Deal maintained his position in the;rnn ' to tie post, and won by a length, while Indigo just beat Bronk Delaval. Then came Rinaldo,'Red Ribbon, and Maniaxoa. Th© favourite was oaaly placed over the first part of tho race or he would have done better, winner • was purohased by Mr. E. Short, of Feilding, on Friday last, and ho is now a very cheap horse' to his new owner. Tho Juvenile Handicap resulted in a , rather easy win for Sweet Tipperary, who was ndden bv W. Toung. xren"t.hara Rose had most pace over the iirst part, but she hung badly on the bend, and Sweet Tipperary led into the Straight . by several lengths, and won easily "rent Nystad, withi Sarahi Grand, peit .
