NOTES AND COMMENTS

!Bt Glencoe.l

The annual meeting of the Waipa -Racing Club will bo held on Saturday, iiiis is tho only fixture this week.

Entries for all ovents at the Jubilee Meeting of tho Westlancl Pacing Club close on Friday evening. The A.J.C. Derby winner, Kilboy, is at present being indulged in swimming exercise at Auckland.

Acceptances for the Stratford meeting close on Wednesday next. Most satisfactory acceptances havo been received for the Alanawntu meeting. Dour horses have dropped out of tho Cup, and only two out of tho Flying Handicap whilo tho other races have also hlled well.

>Iho apprentices L. R. Broughton and It. btyles havo been granted permission to lido in races by tho Wellington Racing Clu.b, while W. Bowdon, whose apprenticeship lias expired, has been-grant-ed a jockey's license.

At a committco meeting of the Wellington Easing Club held this week trainers licenses wore granted to H. S. Crawford and A. Godfrey.

Owners should note that acceptances lor the Marlon mooting close ou Tuesday next. J

Some surprise was expressed when Lady Black was allowed to forfeit her engagement in the Fib.hcrbort Handicap at Awapuni, and the surprise was accentuated when it was found- that T. Pritchard had engaged nono of his team at Tauhorinikan. Probably tho timo of closing of entries was overlooked by the Opakt trainer. Tho fact that Hexton was allowed to drop out of his Awapuni engagements would indicate that Mr. F. .1. Lysnar's team will bq racing at L'llerslio at Christinas, Locally The Toff camo in for further support for tho Auckland Cu.p yesterday. The Derby winnor is now nearly as good a fancy as Blackall. On figures the Derby winnor has all tho worst of tho deal, as ho is currying 61b. over weight-for-age, while Blackall is in with 21b. less than weight-for-ago. Weights for tho Wairarapa meeting aro duo on Saturday next, and acceptances closo on tho following Thursday. Air. G. I'. Donnelly, the well-known Hawko's Bay breeder, had n. stroke of bad luck last week, when his filly by Demosthones, from Offsidor, broko a leg and had to bo destroyed. Snub has quito recovered from the offoot of tho operations on hie chest, and tho woundNhas healed Temarkably well.

Tho Mnrtian tjoliliiiK has a somevrb.it rotund appearance, but stands up to hard work .well, and should acquit himself creditably on his southern campaign. G. Mnrray-Aynsley bus Wardancer and Matty both ready for tho fray.

Entries for tho Summer Mooting- of tho Wellington Racing Club will be re-' coived up till D p.m. on Monday next.

Tho Chokebore stable is dividing up its string for tho holiday racing." Five will probably leavo for Ellersiie on Saturday, while Adjutant, Glen Helen, and Baltlo Mvo will in all probability «° to Wingatui.

It is interesting to note that Lady Penury is the only maro engaged in tho Auckland Cup. In tho past 12 years only three mores have been successful in tho event, Lottio being first to break tho spell, winning in 1891. Tho next year Anita was successful, while-1!) years later, 1!)U, Warstep secured the honour.

Tho Southland trainer if. Rogau is schooling Canrobur over hurdles on tho Invercargill course, and tho gelding' is said to show a good deal of promise. Ho will probably make his debut at tho Du,n«Lin Jockey Club's forthcoming meeting. .

L. H. Howitt will rido for Sir Gcorgo Clifford in the south, while F. F. Jones goes to Auckland to carry tho chequered Fivory.

M, M'Gee, formerly a trainer at Ellerelie, and who has been in tho Veterinary Corps at the Upper Hutt for some time, has now been discharged as medically unfit, and iutouds resuming training <it Ellerslio, where ho has a. stable.
