MEDICAL BOARD
SITTING IN WELLINGTON.
The Medical Board for the 'Welling-' ton Military District, appointed under the Military Service Act, sat at the* Buckle Street Barracks yesterday tot. the purpose of examining mon who had been drawn for sorvico in tho ballot.* Fifty-two reservists of the First Division camo before the board 1 during tho day. They were mostly men who had been drawn In the ballot and who had not appealed for exemption, though al few of thera had been Before the Military Appeal BoaTd and had been 6cn(s on for medical examination.
Tho men stripped for examination in. an outer room, and then went before* the board one at a time. Tbey wer» dealt with fairly rapidly, but it was 8> p.m. before the board completed its work for tho day. The proportion oE rejections is understood to bavo been, fairly high. Six men who had been, summoned to. appear before the board: did not attend. They will be dealt) with in another way. Tlio reservists who camo forward appeared quits codi tented with tho procedure, and aU though they had been enlisted compujsorily they showed little or no disposition to seek ways of evading service* Some of them slated frankly that they;! were glad they had been called up. The board will sit again to-day and!; to-morrow, and will then go to Master-j ton. The .reservists who require to bet examined lave been served with notices stating the hbur at which their presence is necessary. The board ospeote to complete the examination of the City sec' • tion of the ballot men by to-morrow evening, with the exception of the reservists who have appeals before tha Military Service Boards,
