NATIVES' ASSOCIATION SOLDIERS' MEMORIAL
Tho New Zealand Natives' Association have planned out a campaign for tho raising of funds for the soldiers memorial. The first of their series ot entertainments is a. moonlight cruiso around the harbour on the s.s. Duchess, and a concert party of about forty performers, and the Kew Zealand Natives' Band will help to make the trip most enjoyable. During Christmas week tho association are holding a guessing competition. The fattest bullock over slaughtered in Wellington lias been presented by Mr.E. Short, of Feilding, to be killed! and distributed amongst tho poor for Christmas, and it is intended that tho persons guessing the nearest dead weight shall recoive prizes—lambs, sucking pig, geese, turkeys, fowls, etc. On New "rears Eve '(Saturday night) a series of openair entertainments will be held in various parts of the City, at 9.30 p.m. tho battle of confetti will commence, and at 11.30- p.m. all performers and the public will assemble at the Post Office tiquare, where songs and fun will reign until midnight. The shipping companies and Harbour Board are to bo asked to assist by sending up rockets. The big event is reserved for Easter. The association has on order Easter oggs, and each egg will contain a number entitling the holder to a prizo of some value. Tho first prizo is to be a £100 piano, and besides this Mr. Young, the artist, has been commissioned to paint ten pictures of New Zealand scenery. Tho largest picture he will paint in full view of the public in some central business window. On the Saturday and Monday a sports carnival is to be held.
