Sir Josiah Symon, K.C., and Miss Symon, of Adelaide, will arrive in Wellington from Sydney by the Riverina this morning. Professor and Mrs. Osborne, of Mel- j bourne, are due here this morning from Sydney by the Riverina. Dr. Arthur H, O'Hara Wood, lawn tennis champion of Australasia for 1914, who has been in France since February last, has been promoted to the rank of captain. For some months he had been acting-flight commander. Mr. R. A. Armstrong, Dominion secretary of the Moderate League, was a passenger to Auckland by yesterday's mid-day express. Mr. Harold B. Oaks has resigned the office of president of the Wellington Musical Union, having held the position for the past five years. At the Masterton Bowling Club's green on Saturday afternoon, Mr. G. A. Townsend, who has removed to Wellington, was the recipient of a case of pipes from members of the club. The presentation was made by the president (Mr. T. Cresswell), who referred to Mr. Town'send's long association with the club, and to the enthusiasm he had always evinced in club matters. Mr. C. Perry supplemented the president's remarks. ■ Sincere regret was expressed at tho annual meeting of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. last evening that five members of the association had died during the year. They were: Messrs. W. Jennings, J. B. Schoch, H. Lane, D.' M'Kellar, and F. Landon. The three former laid down their lives in service of King and country. Mr. W. T. 'Young, secretary of the New .Zealand Federated Seamen's Union, is a candidate for the office of deputy-representative of tho workers on tho Arbitration Court. He occupied the position for six years, from 1908 to 1914, and was then defeated hy the late Sergeant E. J. Carey. Madame Melba was a passenger by the Niagara for Vancouver. She is to tour the United States in concert under the direction of Mr. C. A. Ellis. After the tour it is understood that Melba will organise another English-speaking Grand Opera Company for Australia under an arrangement with J. C. AVilliamson, Ltd. Mr. Andrew Deer, of the Sholdon Institute of Business Science, is at present staying at the Empire Hotel.
