Distinguished Conduct Medals have been awarded to two Australians and four New Zealanders. Of seven Viotoria Crosses, the most notable oases are:— Lieut. Bradford, of the Durhams, who, as temporary lieutenant-colonel, assumed command 1 -of two battalions and saved the situation when the flank was endangered. Sergt. Downie, of the Dubhns, who, when most of the officers were shot down, shouted, "Come on, Dubs." His stirring appeal was immediately responded 1 to and the men rushed on.
