THE SWANKERS' CLUB

. Everybody who is anybody in AVanganiii knows the Swankers' Club. It originated'.in London, and eventually found its way to AVanganni, where it was taken up by a numbor of good sports, who are really only waiting for avenues of usefulness outside the Avenue that divides the city into two halves. The Swankers in AYauganui do not exist to "swank," as tho slang term is usually understood. They are good, solid citizens too old or too encumbered by ties to go forth and fight, but who have still enough of the spirit of youth left in them to do what they can for the fighters and those who assist the fighters. They hold no allegiance to the London Swankers' Club— the only allegiance they hold is to the Empire, and they mean to hang together until smiling peace glorifies the world onco more. So far the Swankers' Club has a membership of about 200, and in a quiet way thev have done no end of good. For Bed Cross work the club has raised £1000, and they intend to raise over so ranch more before they are through. Even now a big spree for the children to be held on Boxing Day on the beach at Castlccliff is being arranged, and the proceeds will go to swell the patriotic funds. Among the Chief Swankers are Mr. George Swan, the genial host of Chevannes's Hotel.
