British Red Cross Day—"Our Day." Through the courtesy of Messrs. J. B. Harcourt and Co., tho ladies canvassing at Post Office Square, and streets in that vicinity will have tho use of a largo room in Harcourt's Building, Panama Street. Here goods for sale on November 3—Friday next— may be handed in at any time on Friday, and probably Thursday afternoon. Cakes, sweets, vegetables, pot plants, and in fact goods of any kind will be gratefully received. There will be two stalls as well as this depot where goods will be sold. ' One stand will be on the east side of tho General Post Office, and the other on the west sido. The D.I.C. lias kindly promised to do the decoration of these two stalls, as well as some others in other parts or tbo City. Mesdames A. H. Waters, Hugh Wright, and Longmoro wish their friends to observe- the change from the depot formerly used. Women's National Reserve, Ambulance Section. Tho present series of lectures being almost over, an examination will be held probably next week. Somo names have been handed in for another firstaid class. This will be the last class given instruction in this subject in the City this year, so intending pupils should apply at once to have ther names entered at 157 Feathorston Strebt by Mrs. Doyle. A number of names have been handed in for a home nursing class, and a 6 soon as sufficient aro in, a class will bo begun. Unless sufficient names come to hand during the next two weeks, no class will be held owing to the lateness in the year. Hutt Patriotic Culfa. Tho monthly meeting of the Hutt Patriotic Guild Committee was held in St. James' Schoolroom last Thursday. Present: Mesdames M'Caw (presiding), Hansell, Caminer, Misses Knight, Hursthouse, and Stuart-Forbos. The secretary reported tho result of "Our Day" for the lied Cross Fund. The guild had previously decided that instead of street collections the whole proceeds of the Patriotic Shop on October 20 should bo given to the fund. Tho shop was in chnrgo of Mesdames Yates and Eddie and Miss Hursthouse for that day, and everyone responded liberally in contributions as well as in purchasing One enthusiastic lady collected over £6 on the bowling green, and the Fourth Standard at the Hutt School raised the handsome sum of £3 14s. 4d. in a sweets and produce stall at the school. Thp day's result was the substantial sum of £74 os. 4d., and at its meeting tho committee decided to subsidise this up to £150.. Tho guild continues to, get through much work/ but moro ladies willing to tako work home to do will be welcomed, as the demand for soldiers' requisite's is cvor increasing.

Spinsters' Club "At Home." The Spinsters' Club had a very plea~ Bant and profitablo "at homo" at Airs. George's residence in Kelburn. Thero were- most beautiful and rare flowers, cakes, sweets, and a very fine collection of saleable novelties and' serviceable goods. Chilton House girls kindly made sweets,- and prizes were awarded Miss Marjorie Adams, and 1 Miss Violet tlemery. Two very enjoyable concerts were given during■ tlap afternoon, the performers Misses Anderson, Watkins, Driscoll, D. Isaacs, Mrs. Hyams, Rapley, and PeWie. The club tvlsh to thank, their many kind friends for flowers, etc. The fine result of the club's efforts amounted 'to £65. Tho following ladies wore stall-holdors:; — Flowers, Misses,D. Isaacs, Parker, and Jensen; produce, Misses Catolle, D. Levi, and Mcllor; sweets, Misses E. Myers, Muir, M. Myers, Tumbull; blouses, etc... Mrs. Hyams, Miss M. Isaacs; fancy stall, Misses Poyndor, Pegg, and Howe; tea room. Mrs. Muir, Misses Levi, E. Isaacs, Baker, Barton, James; fanoy boxes, Misses Levi and Walker; fortunes, Mrs. Burton, Misses Craig and M'Arthur. A meeting of the committw of the Society for the Protection" of Women and Children was held on October 22. Lady Stout presided, and there were also present: Mesdames Ponsonby, Winder, J. Kirkcaklie, W. A. Evans, M.A., and Miss Parlane. Apologies for absonco were received from Mesdames A. It. Atkinson, A. Hoby, Griffiths, and Ward. Several fresh cases were reported of children in undesirable- surroundings and neglected which have to •be investigated, and many others had been attended to. A meeting of'the Housewives' Union was held in Esperanto Hall on Wednesday last, when the following officers were elected:—President, Mrs. Snow; vice-president, Mrs. Glover; secretary, Mrs. Edmanson. It was decided to hold a sale' of work during November, and a special meeting bus been called for Wednesday afternoon next to make finßl arrangements for same. Children's Patriotic Bazaar. The Jitllo bazaar <to Mrs. Hayes's house in View Road, Karon', last Saturday, was a good example of what children, ii' they are sufficiently unselfish and enterprising, can do. .Most of the work.was done by a committee of six children—the Misses Marjorie Hayes, M'Lennan (2), Maureen Frengley, Joan Harper, and Audrey Bellet. Tlioy were lielpod by the Min'ses Stubbs, Davics (2), Mackenzie, and Stella Hudson. The following ladies managed the lea room, a very popular and crowded department: Mesdames Van Slyke and l'earce and the Misses Bellet and Greenish. Cakes and (lowers and potplauts were readily sold. A guessing competition for a beautifully dressed doll, "Margaret," was won by Miss Sheila Mackenzie. Mrs. Davies, of Karori, won the tempting cake. Flowers, including some really beautiful rosea, were sent by Mrs. C. H. Edwards from Napier, and Mesdames Hassall, S. Ivirkcaldie, N. Kirkcaldie, John Duncan, Carter of Paraparaumu), and Hansell also were most generous with floral offerings. Tho beautiful cardboard: furniture for dolls' houses, the clever work of Miss Maureen Frengley,' found a very roady sale amongst the young people. The houpla competition was a very popular one with young and old. Altogether the net profit ,lor the afternoon amounted to £26.' Mrs. Hayes is desirous of thanking the many people who helped to make the affair 6uch a success. Dance Recital. The danco recital presented by Miss Doriso Guise, and her pupils at. the .New Century Hall was a most successful function. Tho varied and clever dancing of tho young pupils reflected groat credit on their teacher, and came as a great surprise to the parents and friends present. Among tho young performers were the Misses Cecily and Molly Ellis, Violet White, Dorothy .Richardson, Ngaire Williamson, Nancy Totlioringhani, Kathleen _lleccc, Rita Recce, Beryl Ward, Moira Bird, and Master Recce. After'the recital Miss Guise entertained her pupils at Mrs. Guise's residence in Stephen Street. Dr. Edith l'atcrson, who has been on a sliort visit to Dunedin, relumed to town last Thursday. Mrs. Y. M. Dawson, whoso lrnsband is the manager of the Bank of New Zealand in the Hutt' and Pctone district, has returned with her little son from Nelson, and has taken a house at Day's Bay.

Mrs. M'Dougall, of Pirinoa Station, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs. Guy Didsbury, has returned to the Wairnrapa.

Miss Beatrice Chaytor, of Marshlands, Blenheim, is the guest'of Mrs. Edwin for a few days.

A gift evening was held at St. Patrick's Hall on Thursday last in aid of the stall which the Catholic Knitting Guild is having at Boulcott Stroot on Friday next in connection with "Our Day lied Fund." Man/ very useful and saleable gifts were received, besides a number of monetary donations. Musical items were given 'by Miss and Mr. Cornish, Mi6s O'Brien, Miss M'Encrny, and Mr. O'Connor, tho accompanists being Mrs. Cornish and Miss Scgrief.. Littlo Miss Zolrtia Carroll, aged four years, gave two recitations. The committee will bo grateful for contributions of -any .kind for the stall—sweets, flowers, cakes, or produce, which may be left at St. Patrick's Hall on /Thursday at any time convenient to donors.
