SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION
« The council of the Sunday School Union met last evening. Mr. 'S.lcx. Johnston, president, presided over a good attendance of delegates.. A vote of sympathy with the family of the late Mr. J. Reith was passed, and the secretary was instructed to record on the minutes the appreciation of the union of the help given by Mr. Reith while in charge of the Bible Depot. A vote nf sympathy with Mr. T. Sims in his long illness was passed. A long-nservice diploma was passed for a teacher who had sorved over 25 years continuously. It was pointed out that a large-num-ber of teachers in the City an<l suburbs were entitled to these diplomas, and schools were urged to make application for them for all teaohers or officers who have served 26 years or more without a break. An invitation wa'o received from Nelson to hold the next Teachers' Convention in that town, and this waß heartily accepted. The president announced that Mr. Tennant, of tho Training College, had consented to give an address to the tonchers in about a month. A discussion took place on tile graded course of lessons which were being prepared to follow the courise_ which soon runs out, and it was decided to get further information to lay before the council at a later meeting. The president will act as visitor, in conjunction with Messrs. R. Brown and R. B. Davis, and it is liopcd to cover all the City schools in the near future. It was decided to issue a circular asking all schools to make special arrangements to observe the third Sunday in October as a day of prayer, so as to unite with all the schools of the world.
