MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. \V. (i. Riddoll, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Charles Iteddy was charged with unlawfully assaulting Pearl Blair, causing actual hoclilv harm. The- charge was subsequently reduced to ono of common assault. According to the facts brought out in evidence the complainant paid a visit to Roddy's house, to which Roddy objected, as he did not wish her to bo associated with his wifo. He ordered her to leave tho house, ami gave- her a. push which caused her to fall and cut her head. Tho Magistrate, in giving his decision, stated that it was obvious that defendant had used moro force than was necessary to put the woman out—at the Eanio time, ho had considerable provocation. Ho would regard it as a technical assault, and dismiss tho information, provided defendant paid the medical expenses incurred by complainant. William Molloy and Thomas Bergin, on charges of drunkenness, each having a previous conviction, were fined 10s., tho alternative being 24 hours' imprisonment. A remand for a week was granted in the-case of Vivian Wallace, chargod with breaking and entering,, a dwelling at Lyall Bay, and stealing £6 in money. Donald Poison, on a charge of indecent assault on a girl of 1G years of age, was committed to tho Supremo Court for trial.
