IRON MOULDERS
CONCILIATION COUNCIL SITTINGA sitting of tho Conciliation Council was held yesterday to hear the dispute between the Wellington Iron and Brasß Moulders' Union and tho employers in regard to a new a\Vard. Mr. W. H. Hagger, Conciliation Commissioner, presided, and the assessors woro as follow: —For tho employers, Messrs. W. Cable, D. Robertson, and A. C. Mitchell; for the union, Messrs. A. H. Phillips, J. W. Hull, and J. W. Dovo. '
The principal points in the claims were as follow:—Hours, 44 pet week; overtime, time and a half to 10 p.m., double tinio from 10 p.m. to. the-ordi-nary time for starting work next day, and after noon oh Saturday; wages, Is. Bd. per hour for jou'rnoymeu; double timo payment for work done on Saturday afternoons, Sundays, and holidays; foremen, all foremen.in charge of foundries to bo qualified moulders, and to bo paid not less than 15s. per day; all machinery, cranes, etc., to be examiiv ed At least once every six months, and all ladles of lOcwt. and over to .bo fitted with -safety worm gear; apprentices, one to every four journeymen at the following wages: First year, 12s. 6d. per week; second year, ißs. Gd.; third year, 245. Gd.; fourth year, 30s. Gd.; fifth year, 365. Gd.; sixth year, 50s. Thero are other claims dealing with preference, under-rato workers, acepmmodation, etc.
After sitting all day and till late last evening no agreement could be come to regarding the question of wages. It was decided, however, that the working week be of 47 hours (the samo as before), together with tho usual under-rato and preference clause. Tho sitting will be continued to-day.
