MEN BADLY WANTED

There is a great chance just now for public-spirited young men to rendor a very real service to their country, and also to our troops already at the front. The position in which the Defence authorities aro placed is an awkward one. Their endeavour has been, to sond away regular drafts of Reinforcements in order to maintain the strength of our forces at the front and lessen as far as possible the strain on the men in the fighting linos. Up to the present they have been able to do this. It means a great deal in every way to be able to send the full complement of trained men 'regularly. Now there is a possibility that the splendid record so' far maintained may be broken owing to the slackening of voluntary enlistments during the transition period from the voluntary to the compulsory system. The compulsory system cannot be brought into working operation for a "little time yet, and in the meantime to maintain the regular supply of Reinforcements we must have men for tho Twentyfirst draft. There will be plenty of men available for later drafts,'but only by voluntary enlistments can the men be secured to fill up the gaps in the Twenty-first Reinforcements. It is most important that they should be forthcoming at once. Thoro arc'many young men who are merely waitings for the operation of tho compulsory system to serve their country. They arc willing enough, and when called will step into line readily. To these young men! the appeal now sent forth by the' Recruiting Board is specially directed. It is a, call to them to enlist perhaps a month or two months earlier than

they had expected, but when they consider the circumstances many of them will be_ ready to make tho sacrifice, even if only for the sake of the men iu Franco, who are relying on the Reinforcements coming to hand at due' date.
