PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY
4 The adjourned meeting of the Geological Section. of the Philosophical Society was held in the Dominion Museum last evening, Mr. G. Hogben, 0.M.G., presiding. The report for tke_ past year stated that during the year seven meetings had been held, with an average attendance of fourteen. The papers read dealt with widely different aspects of geology, and together with the numerous exhibits combined to maintain interest in the society, and to mark tfta year 86 one of steady progress. During tlio year ten members contributed papers. The following were elected to ofljee for the -ensuing year:—Chairman, Dr. C. A. Cotton; vice-chairman, Dr. .T. Hondorson; lion, secretary, Mr. E. K. lomas; committee. Mossrs. Morgan, Ongley, Uttley, ' Holmes, and Dr. Thomson.Two papers were read by-Dr. .J. Allan Thomson as follows:—(1) On tlio so-called "Drift Formation of Hawera," (2) "The Geology of the Middle Clarence Valley, between the Bluff and Herring River."
