Acceptances for tlio Waiigamii and Otaki meotings close to-night. In connection with tho Horowhemia meeting, to bo held next week, owners are reminded that acceptances for all events'closo oil Wednesday. Several owners were present at Trentlinm on Saturday to seo their -horses galloped. ■ Tho most interesting item of the morning was tlio sound defeat of Oliatwana by Taringamutu, who was conceding weight to her rival. Tho probabilities are that a light boy would not get tho best results out of the Hierarch marc. While at Wanganui last week, Mr. T. M. Wilford completed arrangements for Ukraine to visit tho .imported Hullowmas, who iq standing at Hie Bushy Park Stud. Tho spring meeting of tho Wanganni Jockey Club will bo' held om Thursday and 'Saturday of this week. R. J. Mason passed through here on Friday, bound lor Wanganui. He hiid with him Nones, Splendant, and GreenKITCOt. H. Cutts, with tho Wanganui Guineas | candidate Good Hope, and a maidoli- in Wrestler,' arrived • trom the south' ytslerday, and goes on to Wanganui to-tlny. G.' Price took six horses to Wanganui' on Wednesday last. , His team' cpiisisted of Panmure, Cease Pite, Sedd-el-Bahr, Rovelonta, Birkonvalo, and Wapping. The last named will be the stable representative in the Maiden Plate. Birkenvalo is being taken owing to tho .Awapuni tracks being done up.. J. Parmer is also taking up his two-year-old Lingerie to work'her during tho alterations to Awapuni. . . As tho result of a mistake mado by the totalisator staff, most of thoso who supported Dancastor for tho Hack Welter at Avondalo on Wednesday, were paid 235. too much in their dividends. The Ashburton track is noted for its fast going, and it kept up its reputation last week, the times registered in most of the events being distinctly good. Although Fiery Cross had but a light weight to carry in the 'Asiburtan County Handicap, his perform ance in running 'the mile and a' quarter in 2min. 5 3-ssec. had a great deal of merit. Ho won again on the second day, when he covered a mile in lmin'. 39sec. B. Deeley and A. Oliver each rode three winners at the Avondate meeting, while'P. E. Jones performed ..a similar feat at Astburton.. . Tho probable starters in tho Wanganui Guineas aro Good Hope, Tino Atua, Hyllus, Splendant, Ceaso Fire, Elation, Egypt,, and Sweet Tipperary. Returned visitors from the Ashburton meetiim state that it looks very much as if Fiery Cross will again account for Snub, Marc Antony, and Ringform iu the New Zeatand Cup. On tho second day he won considerably easier than ho did on tho opening day, and ho was going on at tho right end. each day. Horses trained by the Washdyko trainer, S. Trilford, won five races at the Asl). burton meeting, while Aerial finished second in another race. ... The Awapumi horseman, W. Bell, has been engaged to rido John Barleycorn in the New Zealand Cup. Walaroi, winner of the Rosehill Guineas on Saturday, wns tho best two-year-old last season. His victory on Saturday shows that he has gone on the right way, and he will probably start at a very short price in the A.J.C. Derby on October 2. Scottish Knight, who scored in tho Nursery Handicap at Avondale on Saturday, started at a very short price. The public sized up the merits of the horses very accurately, for Penthesilsa, who filled the position of runner-up, was 1 Second favourite on the machine. The machine also correctly indicated the result of the Avondale Guineas, in which the two best backed horses, viz., Waiutu and Beltane, 1 filled tho places. : Mr. F. Cameron has been appointed, starter, for the'Taratahi-Cartorton meeting, which is to be held on November 2. I Mr. W. Duncan, a well-known owner, and a steward of tho Wanganui Jockey Club,, was a visitor to Wellington at the end of last week. He returned homo on Saturday. Tho southern horsemen, F. E. : Jones an'd J. Olsen, will bo riding at Wanganui this week. The former will be on Good Hope in the Wanganui Guineas, ana Olson is coming north to steer Cherry Blossom in tho Flying Handicap. A coincidence, about the Trial Hack Plate and the Maiden Hack Eaco at the Ashburton meeting last week, was that the respective .-winners, Brambletyo and Bombproof, had never previously taken part in a race, while Masterstroke, who was runner-up to Bombproof, was also making his first appearance in public. A Press Association telegram from Sydney states that at the blood stock sales altogether 287 lots were sold, realising 86,863 guineas in tho aggregate. A colt by Llangsby—Aliena realised 2600 guineas..
