BUSINESS OF THE COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the. HuttCounty Council was held yesterday, '['here were present: Messrs. M. . Welch (chairman), J. Wakeham, W. Galloway, T. Edwards, J. Whitcman, and W. J, Howell.

The Inspector of Works (Mr. J. W. Cudby) reported that the stone-crush-ing plant had commenced crushing at Mahina Bay for tho Lowry Bay-Day's Bay Road. He advised that 1000 yds. should be crushed while the crusher was in the locality, a fair amount of which would be used immediately. Repairs to the main cast and west roads had been steadily going oil. The Rimutaka and Paekakariki Hills were in as good order as he had seen them. Most of the other roads had boon attended to and were in fair to good order, except tho Lowry Bay-Day's Bay Road. This road, however, he hoped to make right with a sufficient quantity of the best of metal. He had prepared an estimate of the' probable cost of forming, claying, and metalling seven, chains of road (formation 20ft.. metal 16ft.), at the western end of the present formed road at Plimmcrton extension: also an estimate for widening from 16ft. to 20ft., and metalling for 16ft.., the whole road from the junction of Stevn Avonuo, opposite tho school, to the western end, a distance of 66 chains. . Twenty-eight clmins aloiirr the beach, generally known as the Public Trust- Road, was to be formed, clayed, and metalled, mid tlirre was thirty chains of footpath to be formed and kerhed. It was decided to call a meelinr of ratepayers rcsarding the Day's Bay water and drainage ; Mr. W. Donovan and nine others petitioned the council .to metal the Otaihanga Road. The council decided to have the work done. Communications were received from the Recruiting Board, and the council decided to do what it could to assist in the military enrolment now proceeding.
