APPOINTMENTS AND PROMOTIONS

_ Tho following appointments, promotions, and resignations in the New Zealand Army (Homo Establishment) have been approved:— Permanent Staff —Staff SorgeantMajor (W. 0.) Ernest James Browning is granted tho honorary rank of lieutenant during the period of the War. First (Mounted) Rifles (Canterburx leomanry Cavalry).—Captain George Edward Rhodes retires, with effcct from Juno 9 4 191 G. Queen Alexandra's Seeond (Welling-ton-West Coast) Mounted Rifles.— I The appointment of Second Lieutenant (on probation) Frank Kenneth l'eurco is confirmed.

Third (Auckland) Mounted Rifles.— Tho appointment of Sccoud Lieutenant (on. probation) Wm. Shakespeare Dalton is confirmed.

Now Zealand Field Artillery.—Lieutenant Matthew Henry Oram, from the Brigade Ammunition Column, to bo captain (J Battery).

New Zealand Garrison ArtilleryLieutenant Edward Martell I'earce, to be captain. Second Lieutenant Wm. Mervyn Dawn, from the Unattached List (Z), to /bo second lieutenant (Auckland Garrison Artillery Division), supernumerary to establishment-.

Tho undermentioned to be second lieutenants (Wellington Garrison Artillery Division): —Captain Ward Howard Udy, Captain Gordon Rao Cowic, Captain Tlios. Wm. Mark Ashby, Sergeant Eric Lyon, to be second lieutenant (temporary), (No. 4 Company), dated July 27, 1916.

Corps of New Zealand EngineersSecond Lieutenant Thomas Lomax Gibbs, to bo lieutenant (Mounted Signal Troop). Canterbury .Regiment. —Sergeant Eric West England, to be second lieutenant.

Third (Auckland) Regimeut (Co'.mtess of llanfurly's Own). —Captain Edwin Gordon Fraser, to bo major.

New Zealand Chaplains' Department. —The following are appointed chaplains of the Forces: Revs. Michael Joseph Furlong, William. Skinner, John Achilles Rogers, Harold Rayne, Winsbury White, and George Edward .Weeks.

. Unattached List. (B).—Honorary Lieutenant Sydney Herbert Sergeant is granted the temporary rank of captain while employed, as sanitary officer, Trentham Camp. Second Lieutenant George Win. Morice and Arthur Stanley Tonkin to be lieutenants. Lieutenant Alan Duncan Stitt is transferred to the 13th (North Canterbury and Westland) Regiment. Second Lieutenant- Wm. Mervyn Dawn is transferred to the Garrison Artillery (Auckland Division).
