AUSTRIA WOULD HAIL PEACE
BUT NOT ON OUR TERMS
FOREIGN MINISTER ON THE SITUATION
Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. Vienna, September 11. Baron Burian de Bajecz (Minister of Foreign Affairs) admits that Austria would hail peace with delight, but not the peace the Allies want to.impose. "Austria," he says, "is unwilling to discuss pence whilo the Allies want to take part of our territory. It is nottrue that we are eager for peace on any terms. I admit Austria was surprised when Rumania finally came to a decision so quickly.. We did not offer Itumania territorial concessions, and knew in Juno that Italy and M. Bratiano (Premier of Bumania) .had made a definito bargain. M. Bratiano hoped to play tho part of taking from tho Austrian corpse what it could, but the Allies insisted on Rumania declaring war. Our relations with America are satisfactory, but we maintain that America's exportation of munitions to the Allies has protracted the war, and has thereby inflicted irreparable damage on mankind. Some may_ contend that Austria should, for military, teasons, originate peace overtures. To this we will never agree while our antagonists speak of partitioning our country "
