WELLINGTON CLL ; B. A number of games in the Wellington Chess Club's annual handicap tourney have been disposed of during tho past fortnight. C. White, of Petonc, is leading With the fine'tally of. 7 wins and no losses. He has 5 more games to play. The next best scores are as follow: —Barnes, 5 wins, 2 losses; Purchas, 5—2; Tanner, 4—2; Ward, 51—4-1; Bock, 3—2; and Dornbusch, 21—11. J\lr. W l . Mackay retains rung 2 on tho club's ladder, having won his ladder match with Mr. P. Still (2—o). There was quite an array of talent at the club's rooms on Wednesday evening, amongst those present being several club champions and congress players, including live ex-cham-pions, who between them have accounted for tho New Zealand championship no less tlian 15 times.

A committee meeting was held on Saturday evening, when final arrangements were made for the 14-a-sido telegraphic match against the. Otago Chess Club, which is scheduled to be played on the evenings of September D ami IG, and also on the alternoon of tho latter date. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Chess Association has been convened by tho lion, secretary (Mr. A. (■-. Fell) for next Saturday evening, 2nd proximo.
