Official.—ln pursuance of the arrangements for reviewing the system of education as a whole, Mr. Asquith has appointed Wo committees, under tile chairmanship respectively of Sir J. J. Thomson and Mr. Stanley Loathes. The first has been instructed to inquire and advise on the measures needed to promote the study of natural science in relation to a liberal education, and interest in trades, industries, and professions, particularly dependent on applied science. Tho second to similarly inquire and advise on tho study of modern languages in relation to tho requirements of a liberal education, including tho appreciation of history, literature, and civilisation of other countries, and to interests in commerce and public service.
