PUBLIC WORKS

MINISTER TO VISIT LOCAL BODIES. ■ No new money was provided on the Public Works Estimates this year, and the votes made by Parliament were simply for moneys alrendy promised, but not yet expended. The .Minister of Public Works made this promiso to tho local bodies: That although tho moneys we'ro voted for certain specifio ivories, he would consult witli them as to whether they desired to have the money spent on those works or on any others they might name. It is conceivable that in tho meantime other works'have .become more urgent, and if so, the local bodies aro to have an opportunity of using the money'on tho works they consider most urgent. In order to consult with local bodies all over New Zealand the Minister of Public Works is going to make a tour of tlie whole Dominion. This tour will occupy about two months, one month for each island. He has not yet definitely decided his itinerary, liut he is 'going first round tho North Island.
