WAR RELIEF
CONCERNING DISCHARGED SOLDIERS. . The following statement was issued by the_ secretary : of the Wellington War Relief Association yesterday:— "Apparently many discharged soldiers are unaware that any disability which has been caused by military service will be treated for. any leugth of timo under the direction. of : the Health Department. In consequence of this not being sufficiently known, invalids often go to private medical men for treatment and bring their accounts for the War Relief Association to pay. "A soldier when discharged receives from the Defence Department an order for 30s. worth of clothing, an amount utterly insufficient'for the purpose. When it seems necessary, the War Relief, Association adds enough to supply a man with, a decent suit of clothes. An impression prevails among returned soldiers that they liavo, only to ask for a suit of clothes to get it,, no matter whether they arc well able to pay for it themselves or not. This is a mistake, as each case is; considered on its niorits, and when, as has happened, a man has made an allotment in his own.favour no order is given to him. The association is,not giving a suit of clothes by ; , 'right of service,' but by right of necessity."
