SCHOOL TEACHERS AND MILITARY SERVICE
Sir,—Some few weeks ago one of tha Ministers, speaking in the House;- said that because of the shortage of school teachors, probably the Government would have to prevent any more of them offering themselves for military service. But we are still reading in the daily papers that teachers who enlist are being granted leavo of absence. Is not there some-, tiling wrong in this? Our children' really need special preparation to make up for the losses of those who have gone. The schools should bo stronger, not weaker. It is bad enough when, young teachors go, but when head teachers offer themselves, men of more than twenty years' service, I think the military authorities should be instructed not to acoept them.—l am, etc., v * ' 7 '" ..
