'Massey, Prime Minister:— "In Tim Dominion of July 26, and other newspapers, it is reported that Mr. G. V. Pearcc, in tho House, drew your attention to tho shipment of a largo number of American motor-cars by the Florence Luckenbach. Mr. Pearco also stated that Studebaker motor-cars were made by a German firm in America. AVe submit tho following facts:—No Studebaker cars arc in the Florence Luckenbach shipment. The Studebaker firm is not German.- Mr. J. M. Studebaker, one of the founders of the Studebaker business, and chairman of tho Studebaker Corporation, is of Dutch descent. His Dutch ancestors migrated to America from Holland 180 years ago. Tho Studebaker business lias been established in Amcrica for 61 years. Tho Studebaker Corporation subscribed one million dollars to the Allies' war loan' in America, recently. The Studebaker Corporation js a contractor to the British,, Russian, 1 rnd French AVar Offices. Great .Britain's purchases of Studebaker manufactures during tho present war have aggregated JM,000,000 sterling. Tho Russian Government lias ordered 1000 Studebaker cars, and tho French Government lias made enormous purchases of Studebaker goods. The firm were contractors to Great Britain for Stiidebalrer wagons during tho South African AVar. AVo would greatly appreciate you announcing tho above in tho House.
