GALLANT ATTACK AT POZIERES.
DEADLY WORK AT CLOSE ' QUARTERS. RUSSIANS DRIVING THE .;]..-., .TURKS. ','■ DISORDERLY RETREAT IN THE CAUCASUS. ITALIAN, SUCCESSES. ■*■ ' i Great stories are told to-day of tho splendid work of the Anzacs' at Pozieres. This village, with' Its outworks and complex system of defence, resembled a ; fortress which had to bo reduced in detail, and, although! much had previously been accomplished by the terrific bombardment of the ■ British guns, there were still remaining more or less intact points of desperate resistance, which.' had to be stormed in the teeth of a deadly hail. ' The London Press has giTen great prominence to the gallant assault which was delivered by the Anzacs, in conjunction, with London Terri-. torials. It was deadly work at close quarters. On the Russian front there aro no dramatic developments. The Russians arc methodically de- ', ploying, their troops across a tributary of the Styr, -under a heavy fire, in readiness for the next move. In the Caucasus tho Turks have suddenly taken, to disorderly flight, leaving guns and equipment scattered along their wake. The-Italians havo scored several points in their mountain campaign against the Anstrians.
