The petitioners slate that of the Parenga Company's property, about 12,000 acres belong to the Natives, it being leased to the company through the Maori Land Board at a low rental. "If these Austrians are interned, on this land," say the petitioners, there is nothing lert for us but to leave tho home of our fathers and seek a living elsewhere. AVe aro afraid, if large uum" bers of Austrians are sent here, all the gum will bo dug out and the company will then throw up the land, leaving us without either gum or rent. AVe ask that the company be not allowed to put Austrians on our land that has been leased from us."
