The petitioners slate that apart from their land they have no means of earning a livelihood except by digging gum. . "If these Austrians are interned, on this land," say the petitioners, there is nothing lert for us but to leave tho home of our fathers and seek a living elsewhere. Tho company holds this land for making a profit, which they can only do by digging for gum. AVe aro afraid, if large uum" bers of Austrians are sent here, all the gum will bo dug out and the company will then throw up the land, leaving us without either gum or rent. AVe ask that the company be not allowed to put Austrians on our land that has been leased from us."
