CAPTAIN J. L. H. TURNER KILLED

A' FINE RECORD. Official news was received, yesterday stating that Captain Turner, eldest son of Lieut.-Colonel-C. Harcourt Turner, officer in charge of tlie Motuihi Island pri,son camp, Auckland, had been killed in 'action in France. The late Captain Tirner was educated at the Terrace School and Wellington College, and al'ter leaving school was for three years in the service of the Bank of New South Wales in Wellington. Then lie obtained & commission in tho Royal New Zealand Artillery, and went Home for training on April 3, 1011, and.the following vear was attached for training purposes' to the British Army. In August, 31)14, he left England for Franco as a lieutenant, with the 10th Battery of the Royal ' Ificld Artillery (First Division), and fought' at lions, handrecies, the Harne, Aisne, Tpres (the two. great battles), Nt-uvc Chapelle, Fcatubcrt, and Loos, part-of which time lie was attached as- first, lieutenant to a battery of the Indian Army Corps. In January, 1915, ho was awarded the .Military Cross for gallantry displayed at Cuinchy, and was mentioned in dispatches in June! 1915, about which tinio lie was promoted captain. In February, 191 G. he was transferred to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, in which he commanded tho -Itli Battery, and after spending a few weeks with his fellow New Zealandcrs returned with them to France. . The news states that he was hilled outright by a shell on July 14. '
