Samuel, M.L.C., in moving tho re-election, paid a high tribute to the valuable services rendered to racing by Sir George Clifford and Mr. G. Hunter, .M.t'., and several others also spoke in terms of praise of tho president's work. A Press Association message from London states that Lieut. Strachey, of the Somerset Light Infantry, has been wounded in France. He is a son of Mr. Claude Strachey, of Auckland. Mr. W. TI. E. Wanklyn. who hasjieen secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference for a number of years, tendered his resignation at the annual conference of racing clubs yesterday. In accepting the resignation with regret, the president (Sir .George Clifford) and members expressed their sorrow at losing such an efficient and conscientious officer, and a resolution was passed to that effect unanimously. As Mr. Wanklyn is compiler of .the "Stud Book," a further resolution was passed stating tlKntit was desirous that bis services in tliis connection sliould be retained.
