CHEESE COMMANDEERING PROPOSAL
' CONFERENCE WITH THE PRIME , MINISTER. Representatives of oliecse companies of the Dominion waited upon tlie Prime Minister yesterday, and conferred with him regarding the proposal to commandeer. the whole of the cheese output for tlie coming season. There were upwards of twenty representatives present. It is understood that in . tho representations made to tlie Prime Minister emphasis was given to tho increased cost of tho production of cheese under present conditions, and Sjd. for first-grade cheese delivered at freezing works, was indicated as a reasonable price. Mr. Massey stated that he could not say whether, the proposal would bo acceptable to the Imperial authorities, but ho promised to communicate witli tlie latter on tlie subject. The following, committee was appointed to continue the negotiations:— Messrs. Powdrell (Taranaki), Wi6o (Wairarapa), Jewell (Manawatu), Allen (Cambridge), and Pacey, the' last-named being tha nominee of South Island companies.
