Sir Dougias Alawsou states thai arrangements aro being wade for another attempt to rescue the Elephant islanders by a steel vessel, which is the only type available until the Aurora has been repaired. The chan.ee of success is small, says Sir Douglas Mawson, who adds: "Everything will depend on the vapid refitting of the Aurora, and her dispatch from Puntti Arenas, where she will pick up Sir Ernest Shaekleton. In that case the resouo of the survivors would be practically certain. The Aurora will continue her voyage to nick up the Ross Sea party in January.' Kir Ernest Shaekleton announces that it is his intention to personally proceed to the Boss Sea. It is understood that a suitable modem whaler, apart from tho Aurora, ca.nnot bo obtained. It would cost ,€35,000 to purchase and refit a wooden vessel in Kngland, but the Aurora could bo fitted out much earlier. Thus-the Aurora may be the means of saving tho castaways.
ARCTIC EXPLORATION CAPTAIN BERNIER'S VOYAGE. ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.) (Rec. July 2, 5.5 p.m.) London, July 1. Banter's agent at Ottawa states that Captain Bernier has started for tho Arctic regions in ithe steamer Guide. : Ho will be absent fifteen months, and will visit Boffins Island, which has been formally attached to Canada, and continue exploration work in search of minerals.
