BOWLS
>— KHANDALLAH CLUB. The annual report of the Khaiulallah Howling Club states that "the financial position of the club at the time of the Inst annual meeting was suoh that there remained either for the, club to increase its subscription or to call un n portion of the capital. A motion in favour of the former being lost, the directors at ones proceeded to call up part of. the capital. For the most part the calls have been promptly paid, though unfortunately in a few instances shareholders appear *to labour under the impression that the Companies Act is so elastic as to allow of their liability being annulled if the objects of the company are for promoting a pastime or sport. "Having in view the limited finances the cost was kept down by entirely confining the expenditure to preparation of the greens, and as fortunately the funds were augmented largely by money re-, ceived from the'ladies (.£ls 15s. at. the commencement of the season and. SXi later—the latter being tho proceeds of afternoon ten), the position should appear to members as highly satisfactory. The directors desirr to place on record their high appreciation of the valuable financial" assistance Tendered.' by the ladies to the club, without which the club's financial position would not be ns satisfactory as it is' to-day. They also desire to recognise the valuable- services rendered bv the ladies in connection with the afternoon tea throughout the season. In regard to croquet, the participation in the game by n large number of players is evidence of a successful season, and while tho lawn played well, there is promise of it being still better in the future. The directors are of opinion that it is necessary, in order to nlace tl"> club on a sound financial basis, to increase the annual subscription to & 12s. Gd."
