The trial of Dr. Karl Liebknecht, the famous German Socialist leader, has been fi*ed for June 28 (to-morrow). He is charged with attempted war treason, an offence involving a. maximum sentence of fifteen years' penal servitude. [Dr. Karl Liebknecht' was arrested along with a number of demonstrators during somo May Day riots in Berlin. Although a soldier ho was at the time wearing civilian clothes. It was claimed by his friends that his privilege as a member exempted him from arrest, but the military claimed that he was "taken in tho act." There has been much speculation as to what effect the punishment of Liebknecht would have among the Socialists in Germany. He is a man of enormous influence, and has been described by various writers as "The Ilur crowned King of Prussia."!
