London, June 18. llie death is announced of General Helinuth von Moltke, from heart failure. , He was representing the General Staff at the unveiling of a memorial to Marshal von der Goltz in tho Reichstag. [Field-Marshal von Moltke was one of' «L, fa „ 3 of tbe war - ™s Chief of the German General Staff prior to and during tho early stages of the war, but the disasters of the Marne battle and the irretrievable* check to the German advance, which was the 'net result of the battle, proved his downfall, and his retirement from the active direction of the German cause was hastened by d quarrel with the Kaiser and General von Falkenhayn—the then Secretary for War; Moltke was popularly supposed in Germany to liavo inherited in large measure the military genius of the great Moltke of the Bismarckian era, and that in that respect has been, a painful public disappointment."!
