' PETONE COUNCIL, At last evening's meeting of the Petone Council there were present the Alayor (Mr. J. W. M'Etvanj and Councillors List, Cox, Forsyth, Brocklebank, Anderson, Jones, anu M'Keime. Councillor List's resignation as a member of the ,li.utt Park Committee was received. Munt, Cottrell, and Co. applied for a motor lorry license, which was granted. The General Manager of the j\ew Zealand Railways expressed regret that two passengers snould have been over-carried to Lower Hutt on April 6. Owing to additional carriages being on the train, tho, two rear cars were not quite up to tho platform, but, notwithstanding this, other, passengers realised tho position'and alighted. The motion, which was seconded by Councillor List, was carried. HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIK. At- last evening's meeting of the Hutt Borough Council there were present the Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) and Councillors llodgins, lleldrum, Carver, Brassel, Clendon, M'Dougall, Heron; and Hobbs. A legal opinion was received from Mr. T. P. Martin, counscl to tho Municipal Association, to the'effect vthat resolutions passed by one council were binding on until rescinded. Various local bodies intimated that delegates had been appointed to attend thp proposed conference to discuss Hospital and Charitable Aid Board management and levies. The Mayor and Councillors Hodgins and M'Dougall wore appointed ~co. represent the Lower Hutt. Replies re tho council's proposal that tioll-gates should ho erected on the Hutt Road wero received from the Wellington City Council and . the Onslow Borough Council. In both instances the proposal was not entertained. A deputation representing the Lower Hutt Bowling and Tennis Club waited on the council in reference to the condition .of Fraser Street. Mr. Treadweil stated that a path was urgently needed from the Main Road to the Bowling Green gates. This path-was used by many people attending chunch on Sundays, and. it was suggested that trees might be planted in such a way that an attractive walk might be made of it, and thus improve the borough. It would also give access to a section that was at pre-' sent difficult to approach. Mr. E. P. Rishworth mentioned that the school children from Eastern Hutt found a difficulty. crossing there dry-shod. No barrier was put in the way of their crossing through the bowling green. The Mayor, in reply, stated that according, to tlie engineer's statement the estimated amount of <£12,600 was required this year, and in order to keep down the rates ,£2500 would' have to be struck off that amount, and there was no provision made for what they were now'asking. Ho promised, however, that the matter would be' fully considered when the estimates were being framed. '
