ARRIVAL OF BRITISH DELEGATES. MR, HUGHES ATTRACTS INTEREST. ; (Kec. June 13, G. 45 p.m.) Paris, June 13. Lord Bertie (British Ambassador at Paris) welcomed the Jlarquis of Crewe, Mr. Bonar Law, and Mr. W. 31. Hughes (Prime Minister of Australia), on their arrival to attend the Economic Conference. Tile "Journal des Debais," discussing the Economic Conference, says.: Mr. Hughes attracts particular attention because lis holds as of primary importance the principle that we must fight the German economically by isolating him and making him submit to-a long and severe commercial quarantine. Mr. Hughes preaches, as a corollary, the closer union of Britain and her colonies', recalling the famous Colonial Agreement which our neighbours abandoned in the middle of tho sixteenth century. His ideas have rather alarmed the French industrial commercial groups, particularly those having business relations with Britain. Tho "Debats" concludes: "Every delegate with.uncompromising opinions will be obliged to recognise, in economic matters, as in many others, that a policy of solidarity of interest ought to dominate over all extreme and illusive ideas." THE WOOL EXPORT TRADE. IMPORTANT FRANCO-BRITISH . . SCHEME. London, June 12. As a result of conferences between the British arid I'lrench Governments, a scheme is nearing completipn to limit the importation of wool and woollen goods to France, with a view to stopping speculation. This action is regarded as specially significant in view of the general impression that the United States is amassing stocks of manufactured woollens with the intention of flooding tho markets of the belligerents immediately after the war. . .
