NOTES AND COMMENTS [By Glencoe.] ~ ■; _. The Pahiatua Racing Club is applying for September 13 for its next meeting, and the Woodlands Hunt Club, which, races on the same course, is asking tho Dates Committee-for the following day. Spalperion, who 'lias an engagement in tho big -steeplechase at Gisborno on Thursday,' would undoubtedly have won the second steeplechase at the Avondale meeting had his rider not mistaken the course, and then lost fully, fifty lengths. After this mishap, he was only just beaten:by. Tareri), and the form of this horse in the Winter Steeples at Ellerslie makes Spalperion out to be a very useful horse. who failed to find a purchaser, in Sydney, has proved to be barren this year, and her owner is thinking of; racing her again. Tho Achilles mare has grown into a fine big animal, and should make a good jumper. ! ■
Just tivelve months ago tho Australian Jockey: Club imposed a two years' disqualification on tho black mare Spurn, her owner, and tlio ex-New Zealand ; trainer, W. Gibbs. The embargo haa now been ; lifted, and. the mare Is in •work again at Randwick.

Though racing clubs in the Dominion cannot approach these figmes, they are getting on that way, and the Settlers' Hack Handicap at Napier drew an . entry of 43 horses, while the Hack Hurdles and Hack Steeplechase drew 28 and 2C: respectively. While being loaded at Napier for Gisborno a couple 1 of racehorses, frightened by the whistling of a' train;, bolted off tho wharf"and got clear away. They were not found that ' .night; but turned up ; at their stables at 'Greenmeadows tho following morning.

At Awapuni G. Price is keeping Rovalenta moving along, and judging by the work'-she is "doing," it. looks if Pani 'mure's half-sister is to be racod at the Wellington and Riccarton Winter Meetings.
The Wellington Steeplecliase, 1000 sots., tlie Winter Hurdles, 600 aovs., and tho Parliamentary Handicap, 400, .»otb.,: are all to be decided on the opening dav of 'he winter meeting at Trentham.
