MOTOR-CARS FOR RETURNED WOUNDED SOLDIERS.

Su\-In your issue of to-day's date, Mr. ■i. Al. ivill'onl eoniplaius about the' 1 absence of motor-cars to convey wounded soldiers to tlio Town Hall. 1 am not a member of the Aiitoinobilo Association, as 1 am informed Air. WiLford is, but liavo nlways boon present when asked by the association or the Mayor to assist in taking the soldiers to tile Town Hall, eo I may say have other non-members. ■ I looked in the papers for any advertise; ment or notice of cars being required, and 6aw ■ none, so concluded the association was arranging the mnttvr. Mr. Willoril, I believe, o.ivns a car. Has he ever taken it or lent it for the conveyance of snldiers to the Town Hall? In future I am still willing, if notified, to do my share, but with others would prefer to have somo definite time to be on the wharf, and not waste hours, as has been done previously— I am, etu„ ' \ WILLING. June 9, 1310. . Sir,—Having noticed ill Cliis day's issue of your valuable papor a couple of references to the fact that returned soldiers were compelled to walk from the' ship, permit me to point out what has Tiecn done in this respect in Australia. Either the military authorities or tlie Eed Cross Society (I think the latter) made a request through the press to those persons who were willing to loan their cars and u driver, for the conveyance of returned soldiers from their ships to hospital or elsewhere,- to forward their names. The response was so great that only part of the number of cars offered has at any time been required. Each car offered has be«n given a number kun monnted by a lied-Cross to distinguish from its ordinary number, and so that each car has. a chance of doing its slfaro they are called up in batches as required, a notice being sent to .{He owner. Tor instance, 1 to 35 are called for this ship and. 3G'to 50 for the next, and so On. Through this simple scheme no soldier is called upon to walk to hospital after fighting his country's battles.—l am, ete., AUSTRALIAN.
