WAR RELIEF

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEET,

A meeting of the executive of tho Weilington AVar Relief Association was held yesterday, when the following report of the committee was submitted:—

The committee sat on seven occasions since tho last meeting of the executive, and dealt with 2-19 applications. A letter of thanks was sent to the Royal Now Zealand Society for the Help of Women and Children, "Wellington, for their gifts of baby clothes and assistance given to Mrs. J. B. MacEwan.

Immediate full pay and immediate allotment.—ln accordance with a resolution of the meeting of May 25, a letter was sent to the Minister ot' Defence, suggesting that recruits should receive the full pay of ."is. per day from the date of entry into camp, and that allotments in favour of dependants should be made to take effect coincident]}- with the entry into camp. Tho Minister has referred tho communication to the Recruiting Board, »nd will advise the board's decision in due course.

Loans to Soldiers.—Arrangements have beon made with the Defence authorities whereby small loans can be advanced to returned men not yet discharged, the Defence Department agreeing to recognise the , soldier's pay warrant in tho committee's favour for the amount advanced in approved- cases. Applicants outside AVellington.—lt has been found .necessary to discuss the ques.soll of assisting applicants who were domiciled outside AVellington at tlie time of enlistment, and the Advisory Board has beon asked to take up the matter, seeing that the association is continually approached by such applicants. Some definite arrangement should bo entered into by which authority can l)e obtained from the proper society beforehand or tho matter of refund for relief be arranged. The report was adopted.
