LOWER HUTT COURT

A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held at Lower Hutt yesterday, before Mr. W. G. Itiddeli, S.M., and Messrs. J. Cudby and J. Wilkin, Justices of tho Peace. Annie Dixon, for a breach of a prohibition order, was fined 10s., with 7s. Court costs. Philip' Cameron, for driving a trap after dark without a light, was fined 55., with. 7s. Court costs. S. G. Nathan, for whom Mr. P. H. Putnam appeared, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a motor-car at an excessive speed, and was ordered to nay solicitor's fee of Jil Is. and 7s. Court costs. For riding bicycles at night without lights, Fred. Cooper was fined 55., witli 7s. costs, aud W. Bayley was ordered to pay' 7s. costs. For allowing stock to wander on the public road R. Hobbs and E. Taylor were fined 10s.. with 7s. Court costs. A case against R. J. M'Leod was dismissed, owing to a defect in the summons. For -failure to attend drill several cadets; wero penalised as follow:—A. N. J. Swain and It. Oi. Letts wero each fined 55., with 7s. costs; G, F. W. Anson, V. England, J. W. Andrews, and P. Rea were each ordered to pay 7s. Court, coats; Jas. L. Looner, L. L. Hudson, and C. F. Nyhan were convicted and discharged. K. J. Baumber, a cadet, was ordered to pay 7s. Court costs for obstructing a parade. P. Rea applied for a rehearing of the case in which he had been fined *£2, with 7s. costs, for failure to attend a Territorial parade. After hen ring plaintiff's evidence the Bench stated that the original penalty must stand.

- * CIVIL CASES. Tivo civil cases, Neil v. Ho via nil (a claim for. «82 10a. 6d.), and Mason and Co. y. Iloivland {.£6 155.), were adjourned to Wellington for legal argument. Mr. P.' H. Putnam appeared for plaintiff, ami Mr. K P. Bunny for defendant-, in both instances. A dispute between C. Rasmnssen and H. Cliittick, arising from the alleged noncompliance with the terms of a lease of five acres of land, and claiming ;£M damages, was also adjourned to Wellington for legal argument. <A counter-claim of £& was entered by Chittick. Mr. E. P. Bunny appeared for the plaintiff Ka'siniissen, and Mr. ,T. ,T. M'Grath for Chittick.
