PATRIOTIC SOCIETY
Like all other towns in New Zealand, New Plymouth, on the outbreak of war* set up a patriotic society of energetic citizens. Their functions have boon many aiul varied, and as a result the patriotic funds have been considerably augmented. Recruiting has by 110 means been elnc'k, and very little difficulty has been experienced ill filling the quotas. The latest offer by the society is a handsome motorcar, donated by Mr. Newton King, to ba raffled this month. Tickets lire 2s. fid. and are obtainable from the secretary. Office-bearers are: Messrs. J. W. Wilson, chairman; ,T. Paton, treasurer; w. J. Chaney, assistant treasurer; and L. W. Monteath, secretary.
