A storekeeper of North Auckland, interviewed bv the Auckland "Star".lias 'no love for the aliens on the gnnifields. He said there had always been a strong feeling in tlio north-against the influx of Austrians. Near where ho resided there was one camp of 150 Austrians, and in the whole Mangonui County there were! between 1000 and 1200, of whom only 37 are married. He estimated that in the province of Auckland there were between .1000 and 400(1 Austrians on the. fields. ''I object," he said, "upon moral grounds to thousands of men coming here with, out any women with them. The records of the north will show- that I have good reasons for my objection. To my mind this means the absolute ruin of the Maori race, because there are t-o ina'nv opportunities 'of procuring intoxicating liquor." The men comprising the reinforcements to the Tunnelling Company of Engineers, who have been in ,training at NarrowNock, Devonpnrt, for .some weeks past, left camp on filial leave on Tuesday. As most ol the men are drawn from Southern districts, they left en route for their homes by Tuesday evening's Main Trunkexpress. One bale of wool donated by Mr. Woodman to the N.Z. Wounded Soldiers' Fund, and sold yesterday by tho N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., realised about .£2O, and one bale wool donated by Mr. Henry .Hume to N.Z. Patriotic Fund realised .£l9 10s.
