LATEST RECRUITS MANY REJECTED AS UNFIT Among the medical papers of recruits which were returned to the Buckle Street Recruiting Office yesterday were many marked "unfit" or "tomjiorarily unlit." Quite fifty- per cent, ot the papers were so marked. -Those passed as fit for active service wore: • A. E. Jcssup, tramway employee, New. town. B. Iv. Howe, builder, Island Bay. •I. W. Wilkinson, machinist. City. A. jVrGtUivray, waiter, Melbourne. L. N. Brooker, letter-carrier, City. C. F/. Tonnent, Defence Cadet, City. J. R. I'helan, metal polisher, City. C. N. Riddk-y, clerk, Pctono. A Becker, gardener, Wsuka-nae. W. T. Newman, driver, City. Percy J. New, farmer, City. . P. A. Donnelly, plumper, Kilbirme. All the above enlisted for the infantry. No difficulty is. expected in providing the Wairarapa infantry quota (81 men) for the Seventeenth Roinforcements. Enough infantrymen 'aro said to be in sight to provide the quota for the Eighteenths. The- recruiting boom in Christchurch produced over 330 moil last week, and they avo said to bo of good stamp. The men now offering aro not youths, .and include many, in good positions or in business of their own, and it is obvious that, for many, enlistment means great sacrifice financially. Holiday night's medical examination was about the most satisfactory ever held in the city.
